CHAMPIONSHIP DOG KENNEL
Ellen McKee's Alaskan Malamutes have achieved a remarkable record of American Kennel Club (A/K/C)Championships. However, these are not just pretty faces as they have also attained obedience and agility titles from the A/K/C, and working team dog titles from the Alaskan Malamute Club of America (A/M/C/A). One is also working toward an A/M/C/A weight pulling title. These are Malamutes doing what their breed does best - working, pulling sleds and heavy loads. To keep her dogs in top condition Ellen took up mushing and it is a marvelous sight to see her sled pulled by such magnificent dogs.
When we first talked about a kennel sign Ellen felt it should memorialize Baron, her first purebred Malamute, and her first Champion. She had a terrific picture of Baron, but it showed only his head. However, Baron's Great Grandson, Gannett, had just become a Champion and there was a wonderful photo of him - except his head was turned so it didn't show in good profile.
The solution - graphically speaking - was to move Baron's head to Gannett's body! It worked so well that we duplicated the resulting dog, changed its size and turned it around so there were now three dogs. Ellen passed the image along to other Malamute devotees just to be sure it looked like - well, like a Malamute. It passed the test and the sign was cut from steel plate then buried in the snow for seven months to give it a natural, deep, warm rust color. Ellen wrote, "Now when I come home, there is Baron standing guard
over his great, great, great grand puppies, born just last week. It
is a fitting memorial to a truly majestic dog!"
